Baby African penguin born at the Zoo
Fort Worth Zoo - Baby African Penguin Born At The Zoo

Our littlest penguin is a girl and following her mother Daisy's floral namesake, her name is Rosie. She has grown quite a bit since we last saw her, but Rosie is still spending much of her time nesting with her parents. Keep your eyes on the nest boxes in the African penguin exhibit for glimpses of the newest addition. Have you noticed the rocky structures in the African penguin exhibit? Those nest boxes were created by TCU – Texas Christian University students from the TCU College of Science & Engineering and TCU College of Fine Arts in December 2019. Since then, several breeding pairs have taken up residence in the nests. Both the male and female will contribute to building the nest, incubating eggs and feeding and caring for their young.

Tandy Hills Natural Area
Tandy Hills Natural Area - A 160 Acre Indigenous Prairie

Tandy Hills Natural Area (THNA) is a 200+-acre indigenous remnant of Fort Worth prairie located in the heart of Fort Worth, Texas. The land was obtained by the City of Fort Worth Parks and Community Services Department in 1960 and designated a "natural area" in 1987. Noted for its unusually complete collection of prairie flora, THNA contains more than 1500 species. The show of spring wildflowers is unsurpassed in the Metroplex. The land is a living example of how most of Fort Worth and the Great Plains appeared in predevelopment times. THNA is adjacent to I-30 and less than 5 minutes from downtown Fort Worth, Texas. The fact that it has never been plowed or developed and survived into the 21st century in relatively pristine condition is remarkable.

Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District
Stockyards National Historic District - Step into the West

Fort Worth is where the West begins, and nothing embodies Western heritage better than the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District. From the original brick walkways to the wooden corrals, every inch of the Stockyards tells the true history of Texas's famous livestock industry. The Fort Worth Herd is the world's only twice daily cattle drive, held every day at 11:30 AM & 4:00 PM in the Fort Worth Stockyards. When the railroad arrived in 1876, Fort Worth became a major shipping point for livestock, so the city built the Union Stockyards, two and a half miles north of the Tarrant County Courthouse, in 1887.
