Historic Fort Worth - Thistle Hill and McFarland House

Built in 1899, Ball-Eddleman-McFarland House is Fort Worth's premier example of Queen Anne-style Victorian architecture. Turrets, gables, copper finials, a slate tile roof and a porch of red sandstone and marble highlight the late-Victorian exterior. The interior includes original ornate oak mantles, cornices, coffered ceilings, paneling and parquet floors. The house is available for individual and group tours.

*For everyone's safety, Thistle Hill will be closed for tours until further notice.* One of the most impressive surviving mansions of the “cattle baron” era, Thistle Hill is situated on a 6.5-acre plot in the Near Southside and was purchased in 1903-04. This Georgian Revival-style mansion has been restored to its 1912 condition and is listed on the National Register. The nearly 11,000-square-foot, red brick structure was once the scene of lavish dinners and parties as its owners entertained Fort Worth's powerful and elite. The house is available for individual and group tours.

Tours of Thistle Hill and McFarland House will begin again on May 2.

McFarland House will be closed for tours from June 6 to June 15, 2021 due to the Needle Art Love Story exhibit. For more information on this exhibit, click website below.

Due to construction, parking for Thistle Hill guests is now in the garage on 7th Avenue, at Pennsylvania Avenue, and immediately east of Thistle Hill. Parking in the garage is free for guests of Historic Fort Worth, Inc. To reach the back gate of Thistle Hill, exit the garage, turn left towards Pruitt Street and then right onto Pruitt Street. The gated entrance to Thistle Hill will be on the right. Please allow additional time for parking.

During the winter months, if weather conditions are such that driving becomes hazardous, we will close the houses. If the weather is questionable and you are planning to tour one or both houses, please check the website or call to make sure we are open. 817-332-5875.
