Lee Albert Hill - A Texas Original

ABOUT LEE

To be a Texan is often to develop a deep appreciation for the character of our rugged landscape where an abundance of stone and wood are found. In the hands of a skilled artist these materials inherently contain an anthropomorphic tension between the organic and the precise, often resulting in work that is beyond the sum of its parts. As a native of the West Texas oil patch and a current resident of Fort Worth, Lee Albert Hill especially appreciates creative work that is at once disciplined and precise but strives for more by elevating and celebrating random imperfections. Lee Albert Hill works as both an artist and an architect, practicing daily in a busy architecture firm focused on modern design; it is therefore natural for his paintings to explore abstract principles.

He has a process driven approach to painting that includes the mark making of random natural elements placed, poured, or sprayed on a canvas, along with a thoughtful hard edged application of drafted and painted geometric based patterns. This relationship between random and geometric plays out across the canvas as an abstracted language of our ever-present contemporary tension with nature. Essentially, Lee is an artist exploring questions about the way we make our marks on the landscape in both contemporary and historical contexts.

Lee Albert Hill is a graduate from the College of Architecture at Texas Tech University in Lubbock. He has shown at Marin Museum of Contemporary Art in California, Angelo State University, Fort Works Art and ARTSPACE 111 in Fort Worth, the K-Space Contemporary in Corpus Christie and at the LHUCA in Lubbock.
